Bennett Murphy-Mills isn't your average wedding photographer. Scratch that—there's nothing average about her. Picture a vivacious whirlwind of creativity, a master of capturing emotion, with a decade of professional experience, and a knack for making everyone feel like they've known her forever. Bennett’s love affair with cameras began young. Imagine a three-year-old Bennett, clutching her mom's film camera in one hand and her dad's VHS camcorder in the other. The signs were there, but the real kicker? It was a hockey pool that got her her first camera. “My dad used to do an annual hockey pool with his buddies.” she recalls, laughing. “They'd all throw in 50 bucks, and the winner would win the pot. I decided to join in one year when I was around 12 years old, and believe it or not, I won! And with that prize money, I was able to buy my first digital camera”. From then on, Bennett was hooked. She dabbled casually in photography throughout high school until the big question hit: “What am I gonna do with my life?” The answer was clear—turn her passion for photography into a career. And so, Bennett’s professional journey began. Straight out of high school, Bennett dove headfirst into the world of photography and started her own business. 

Bennett's approach to photography has always been rooted in comfortability and trust. “I aim to make my couples feel incredibly at ease in front of the camera, to the point where they might even forget they’re being photographed! They can fully trust me to capture their day in a genuine way, ensuring all the classic must-have photos are captured, as well as all the candid and authentic moments in between”. Bennett’s goal is to capture photos you can look back on and feel the soul of the day in.

Nowadays, Bennett’s work life is nothing short of intense. “I shoot between 30 to 40 weddings and elopements throughout the year and +100 miscellaneous lifestyle photo shoots. May to October is the busiest for local bookings. Winter is busiest for destination bookings.” Her work takes her all over Canada and worldwide. Based primarily out of Manitoba, British Columbia, and Prince Edward Island, she is always on the move. “I have family in all three provinces so I love to base the majority of my work in each of these ‘home’ provinces so I can squeeze in quality time with loved ones around my work!”. 

What sets Bennett apart isn’t just her eye for detail or her knack for capturing the perfect shot—it’s her personality. “I do my best to create a really comfortable atmosphere. I’m not just your photographer, I’m your friend. I’m the bubbly and positive energy keeping things calm and organized during the chaos of a wedding day.” Her ability to connect with people is her secret weapon. 

At home, Bennett’s personal life is filled with love. “I have my husband and four fur babies. We love going for cruises in our 2002 Ford Mustang, as well as grabbing ice coffees and going to the dog park with our two rescue dogs!”. In addition to photography, Bennett is also a nationally certified equestrian horseback riding coach. As a true animal lover, Bennett especially loves when clients include fur babies of their own in their photo shoots or on their wedding day!

Looking ahead, Bennett continues to expand her offerings, including all-inclusive elopement packages that have become a favourite among her clients. “One of my most popular packages is an all-inclusive helicopter elopement package in Vancouver, BC. Clients get to fully customize their day, and I handle all the planning and vendor communications. People get stuck in the status quo when it comes to planning their wedding. It’s so easy to go the traditional route. However, you can get married in a thousand different ways that are more true to you. I love helping my clients think outside the box, and help them formulate a wedding day that is focused on what truly matters - marrying their person.”
