Calgary Wedding Photographer Caitlin Unrau of Rose and Range Photography
Before she was photographing weddings in the Rocky Mountains and Tuscany, Caitlin Unrau was just a teenager with a disposable film camera and an inherent sense that the small moments mattered. When asked where that instinct came from, she recalls one of her earliest photos — a dog named Cherry, sitting peacefully in a wildflower field. Cherry passed not long after, and the image became more than a snapshot; it became a meaningful heirloom. That experience still anchors her approach to photography today: “I wanted to be able to take how I felt in those moments with me,” she recalls. “And gift that to the people who love the subject of the photo.”
As the owner of Rose and Range Photography, Caitlin is a Calgary-based wedding and lifestyle photographer known for creating timeless, joyful, and emotionally authentic imagery. Her work is deeply shaped by her background in contemporary dance and her years as a developmental aide for people with disabilities. It's a mix that gives her both a refined sense of movement and an empathetic approach to every shoot.
“I still cry at weddings I’m not even at,” she laughs. “I fall in love with it all, every single time.”

From Dance to Documenting Love
Caitlin’s first creative love was movement. She holds a degree in both dance and kinesiology and continues to perform with contemporary companies in Alberta. Her eye for fluid motion and her understanding of body language give her a distinct advantage behind the camera — especially when it comes to capturing candid, natural-feeling moments that don’t feel stiff or overly directed.
“Dance taught me how to anticipate movement and guide people into it,” she says. “That’s why I use prompts instead of poses. I’m not asking you to stand still — I’m asking you to whisper goofy things in each other’s ears, to move, to be yourselves.”
Before launching Rose and Range in 2019, Caitlin photographed friends, families, and dancers under the name Cru Photo. She second shot her first wedding in 2018 and instantly fell in love with the emotional pace of the day: “There’s something about the intensity of weddings — the way they move from laughter to tears and back again. I love being on my feet, navigating that energy, building relationships with everyone from the couple to their guests.”

A Photography Style Full of Feeling
Caitlin describes her style as timeless, playful, and romantic. She uses natural light and lifestyle-inspired prompts to create imagery that feels personal and full of heart. Her editing is true to tone — classic without being dated — and her wedding galleries are packed with both sweeping portraits and the quieter, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that define a day.
Whether she’s shooting an intimate backyard ceremony in Alberta or a destination celebration in the Italian countryside, Caitlin approaches each wedding as a deeply personal story. “Every session is a little reminder that people matter deeply,” she says. “My job is to notice the wonder in the in-between and make sure you never forget how lovely life really is.”

More Than a Photographer — A Hype Girl, Friend, and Planner
From the first inquiry, Caitlin offers a collaborative, down-to-earth experience. She regularly helps her couples build wedding day timelines, plans golden-hour portraits around the best light, and keeps nerves low with her warm presence and gentle direction.
Think of her as your honorary bridesmaid with a camera — flyaway fixer, hype woman, and emotional support human all in one.
“I don’t just want to make you look good. I want you to feel amazing,” she says. “To feel seen. That’s the whole point.”

Weddings in Calgary, the Rockies, and Beyond
Based in Calgary, Caitlin photographs weddings across Alberta — with a particular love for Canmore and Banff — as well as select destination weddings each year. She typically shoots 15–25 weddings annually, along with over two dozen family and dance sessions. Her recent work has taken her to Italy and Portugal, and she’s aiming to book 1–2 international weddings per season moving forward.
Rose and Range is also committed to inclusion and representation. Caitlin’s years working with people with disabilities inform her belief that everyone deserves to be seen, celebrated, and photographed with dignity and care.
“I still can’t believe I get to wake up every day and do this. Photographing love stories that reflect who people truly are? That’s the dream.”
