In the picturesque landscapes of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Candace MacDonald has found her calling as a photographer, capturing the essence of life's beautiful moments. Her story is one of passion, family, and a deep connection to her island home.

Candace's love affair with photography began unexpectedly during her time in Alberta, far away from the rugged shores of Cape Breton. "I never truly appreciated the beauty of this little island until I lived away for a little while," she reflects.  The Rocky Mountains inspired her photography but it wasn’t until after she moved back home that she started to embrace the environment that she grew up around.

Married for over 12 years, Candace, her husband, and their two children, along with their beloved fur babies, are avid adventurers on their island. "They are the reason I do what I do," Candace shares. Her journey into photography was rooted in a desire to capture the intimate, in-between moments of family life, which eventually led her to capture those moments for others.

"I started my business with Children's Photography," Candace explains. However, her path soon led her into the wedding industry, where she discovered her true passion. "Wedding photography is where my heart is," she declares. For Candace, weddings symbolize an incredible celebration of love, and she thrives on being a part of her clients' special days.

Reflecting on her own wedding planning experience from afar, Candace understands the challenges couples face. "I didn't have a clue who any of the local vendors were," she recalls. This experience fuels her desire to support her clients and connect them with Cape Breton's exceptional wedding vendors.

Her evolution from capturing children's moments to the intricacies of wedding photography was guided by a mentor, Anita Clemens, who encouraged her to pursue her passion. "She's the reason that I'm doing this right now," Candace acknowledges gratefully.

Today, Candace thrives in Cape Breton's close-knit wedding industry, collaborating and sharing knowledge with fellow photographers and industry professionals. "We get together not just as photographers, but as a whole wedding industry community," she explains. This camaraderie strengthens Cape Breton's wedding scene and enriches Candace's artistic journey.

With a photography style focused on storytelling and connection, Candace embraces the uniqueness of each couple's love story. "I just love that everybody's story is unique and different," she remarks. Her goal is to capture and convey these stories authentically through her lens.

As Candace continues to navigate the world of photography, she looks to expand her offerings into business branding sessions and explores new avenues to showcase her creativity. Despite the challenges of balancing work and family life, she finds harmony and support from her husband and children.
