In the lush, evergreen landscapes of Vancouver Island, Deanna Veerman has built a thriving career as a wedding photographer who specializes in capturing the natural, unscripted moments that make each couple’s story unique. With a decade of experience behind the lens, Deanna has honed her craft to focus on authenticity, emotion, and the timeless beauty of human connection. Her journey into photography is one of passion, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the fleeting moments that define our lives.

A Journey Rooted in Storytelling
Deanna’s love for photography began in her early years, but it wasn’t until she enrolled in a photography program that she discovered her true calling. “I fell in love with black-and-white photography during a film developing class,” she recalls. “There’s something timeless and raw about it that really spoke to me.” Despite the program’s focus on the art and history of photography, Deanna found herself drawn to the storytelling aspect of the craft—a passion that would eventually lead her to wedding photography.
After graduating, Deanna started her business slowly, shooting just a handful of weddings each year while second-shooting for other photographers to gain experience. “I was shy and still developing my skills,” she admits. “But every wedding taught me something new, and I just kept pushing myself to grow.”

Capturing the Heart of the Day
What sets Deanna apart is her ability to capture the genuine emotions and connections that unfold throughout a wedding day. “I love the photojournalistic side of weddings—the candid moments where people forget the camera is there,” she says. “But I also know when to step in and guide couples, especially if they need a little help feeling comfortable.”
Her approach is a delicate balance of observation and direction. “I prompt couples to interact with each other and their environment, but I never want them to feel posed or stiff,” she explains. “My goal is to capture them as they truly are, in a way that feels natural and authentic.”
This philosophy has resonated deeply with her clients, who often describe her work as “natural” and “timeless.” “When couples tell me they chose me because they want their photos to feel real, I know I’m doing my job right,” she says.

A Season of Growth and Reflection
The past few years have been transformative for Deanna, both personally and professionally. After going full-time in 2021, she quickly found herself shooting 30+ weddings a year—a testament to her talent and dedication. But it hasn’t been without its challenges.
“The last three years have been the most intense of my life,” she shares. “I lost both of my parents unexpectedly, fell in love with my partner, and inherited a house—all while building my business. It’s been a lot to navigate.”
These experiences have deeply influenced her work. “When I see moments of connection between people—whether it’s a parent’s tearful embrace or a grandparent’s proud smile—I’m reminded of how precious these moments are,” she says. “I want my photos to be a lasting reminder of the love and joy that surrounded them on their wedding day.”

A Commitment to Balance
With a busy wedding season that stretches from May to October, Deanna is constantly striving to find balance between her work and personal life. “I’m naturally drawn to efficiency and putting my clients first,” she admits. “But I’ve also realized how important it is to prioritize my own well-being and spend time with the people I love.”
For Deanna, that means carving out time for hiking, CrossFit, and quality moments with her family. “I’m a very physical person, so staying active is essential for me,” she says. “And as much as I love my work, I know I need to make space for the things that bring me peace and joy outside of photography.”

Looking Ahead
As she looks to the future, Deanna is excited to continue growing her business while staying true to her values. “I want to keep capturing the natural, emotional moments that make each wedding unique,” she says. “But I also want to make sure I’m living a balanced, fulfilling life outside of work.”
For couples seeking a photographer who values authenticity and connection, Deanna Veerman is a perfect match. Her ability to capture the heart and soul of a wedding day—with all its joy, love, and imperfections—is what makes her work truly unforgettable.
