Frances Morency Photography

Frances Morency doesn’t just take photographs—she distills time, capturing unscripted moments so vivid and emotive they feel like memories you’ve always had. Her approach to journalistic wedding photography is an intricate dance between precision and instinct, where storytelling takes precedence over mere documentation.

Based in Meaford, Ontario, Frances travels across Canada and Europe, bringing her distinct journalistic style to weddings, portraits, and events. She believes in the power of authenticity, eschewing overly staged images in favor of the raw, unscripted emotions that define a wedding day. "You need a photographer who can anticipate a moment before it even happens," she says. "That’s where the real magic is."

Frances' journey to becoming an award-winning wedding photographer wasn’t linear. She’s held a camera in her hands since childhood, fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow. But before committing to photography full-time, she carved a unique path—one that led her through the world of corporate aviation, where she worked alongside celebrities, athletes, and dignitaries, including Nelson Mandela.

"Aviation taught me discipline, patience, and how to read people quickly," she reflects. "It’s actually a skill set that serves me well at weddings. I can walk into a room and immediately sense the dynamics, the energy. That’s crucial for capturing real, meaningful moments."

Her formal training began at BEALART in London, Ontario, and later at Sheridan College in Oakville, where she honed her technical expertise. However, it was the unpredictable nature of weddings—the challenge of being fully present in every fleeting second—that ultimately drew her in.

For Frances, wedding photography isn’t about creating a highlight reel of posed portraits. It’s about unscripted storytelling. "The best wedding photos aren’t about the dress or the decor—they’re about the relationships, the interactions, the tiny moments in between," she explains. "The look on a father’s face when he sees his daughter in her gown. The way a couple’s hands find each other under the table. Those are the images that last."

Her journalsitic approach means minimal intrusion. She works in the background, capturing the day as it unfolds. "I want my couples to forget I’m even there," she says. "I want them to be fully immersed in their wedding, not worrying about posing for the camera."

Frances has built a team of associate photographers, each trained to uphold the same high standards of storytelling and professionalism. While they handle the wedding-day coverage when Frances is booked, she remains deeply involved in every client’s experience—shooting engagements, handling all editing, and designing albums. "My associates are insanely talented, and I trust them completely," she says. "But every single image still goes through me. I want my clients to know they’re getting the same level of quality, whether I’m the one shooting or not."

Outside of journalistic wedding photography, Frances is an avid traveler and equestrian. She and her husband spend a month in Europe every winter, exploring new cities on foot, always searching for the perfect red wine, the best coffee, and a new adventure. "Traveling fuels my creativity," she says. "It teaches me to see the world differently, which in turn makes me a better photographer."

She also has a deep love for film photography, which influences her editing style. "Trends come and go, but timeless images will always stand out," she says. Her black-and-white photographs are especially striking—crisp, dynamic, and full of depth.

When asked what keeps her passionate after two decades in the industry, Frances doesn’t hesitate. "It’s about legacy," she says. "Decades from now, when a couple looks at their wedding album, I want them to feel everything all over again. The love, the joy, the anticipation. That’s what photography should do—it should transport you."

And that’s exactly what Frances Morency does, one frame at a time.
