In a cozy corner of Kelowna, British Columbia, nestled among rugged mountains and sprawling vineyards, Jordana Dickson is redefining what it means to be a wedding photographer. With an MFA-worthy aesthetic and a knack for forging connections that feel more like friendships, Jordana doesn’t just document weddings—she immortalizes them as tangible love stories.
This isn’t your cookie-cutter wedding photography. For Jordana, photography is an art form, a narrative device, and a labor of love all rolled into one. She’s not in it for the posed perfection or Pinterest board recreations; she’s in it for the moments that make you feel something. “Every time I take a photo, I ask myself, ‘Do I feel something?’ If someone looks at this, will they feel something too?” Jordana says.
Her approach to photography is refreshingly human. After attending the Arts Legacy program at McGill University and later earning a diploma in Professional Photography back on the West Coast, Jordana has taken her love for storytelling and applied it to the world of weddings. Her images are bold and rich, brimming with natural light and emotion—a signature style that’s as honest as the love stories she captures.
From the Glacier Lakes to the Wedding Aisle
Jordana’s life reads like an adventure novel. She’s traveled extensively, hiked rugged trails, dove into glacier lakes, and even conquered skydiving. These experiences, she says, have shaped her perspective and given her a unique lens through which to see the world—literally and figuratively. “There’s something about embracing life in all its wild, messy beauty that helps me connect with couples and their stories. It’s about finding that shared humanity.”
When she’s not behind the camera, you might find her on the slopes skiing, curled up with a book, or dancing—her life is as vibrant and multidimensional as her photography. This diversity of experience is what allows Jordana to adapt to each couple’s unique story, whether it’s an intimate backyard ceremony or a grand wedding in the heart of the Rockies.
More Than a Photographer—A Collaborator
For Jordana, the relationship with her clients goes beyond a transactional exchange. “I’m not just showing up to take photos,” she says. “It’s about collaboration and connection. I want to know their story, what makes them laugh, what makes them cry. That’s what allows me to capture something real.”
Her ideal client? Someone who values the marriage more than the wedding. “The wedding day is magical, but it’s one day. I’m drawn to people who are more invested in the life they’re building together.” It’s this ethos that draws couples to her—they see their values reflected in her work and trust her to capture their day with authenticity and care.
Balancing Ambition and Intention
As she looks ahead, Jordana’s goals aren’t about chasing the next big thing. Instead, she’s focused on finding balance. “I’d love to think about having a family in the next few years,” she shares. “I don’t want to be gone all the time. My dream is to capture the destination feel locally—whether that’s a cabin in the woods with your favorite people or a windswept beach on Vancouver Island.”
She’s also focused on creating sustainable, meaningful work. “It’s about taking what was hard from last season and tweaking it for the next. There’s always something to learn, always a way to grow.”
A Care Bear with a Camera
Spend five minutes talking to Jordana, and you’ll notice something—she’s a self-proclaimed “Care Bear.” “I feel like a little kid half the time because I can’t believe my goal of being an artist actually came true,” she says with a laugh. Her joy is palpable, her passion contagious. And it’s this genuine excitement that keeps her grounded, even amid the challenges of running her own business.
“Being self-employed as an artist, especially in Canada, can be challenging. But it’s also incredibly rewarding. Every day is different, and every day I get to create work that feels like me.”
Looking Ahead
With the new year underway, Jordana is excited to continue telling stories through her lens. “I’m looking forward to what 2025 will bring,” she says. “I want to work hard, create more work that I feel connected to, and hopefully, that resonates with others too.”
In a world often obsessed with the curated and the staged, Jordana Dickson stands out by keeping it real. She’s not just documenting weddings; she’s celebrating love in all its beautifully imperfect forms. And she’s doing it with the kind of authenticity that makes her a true artist—and one to watch.
