Winnipeg Wedding Photographer Kassie Tuba

When Kassie Tuba took her camera into the streets of Paris for the first time, she had no idea that she was stepping into her life’s work. What began as a personal challenge — a way to test her eye and her courage in a foreign city — turned into a calling that would carry her across France, Belgium, and Canada, telling real stories of love with tenderness and truth.

Today, Kassie is the creative force behind KT Photography, a deeply human wedding photography brand grounded in emotion, light, and honesty. Her work is rooted in both experience and sensitivity — shaped by years of travel, teaching, and healing. Whether documenting vows under the French sun or quiet embraces in Manitoba’s prairie light, Kassie brings the same intention to every frame: capture what’s real and preserve it with care.

From Winnipeg to France: A Journey Through Loss, Light, and Art

Kassie’s path to photography was anything but linear. Raised in Transcona, a suburb of Winnipeg, her childhood was marked by complexity, resilience, and a deep connection with her Nana — the woman who raised her and taught her what love feels like. When Kassie lost her mother as a teenager, she left Canada for a three-month exchange in Orléans, France. It was supposed to be a temporary escape. Instead, it was the beginning of something bigger.

She returned to Canada to finish school, then left again — this time for Brussels, Athens, and finally Paris — chasing not just travel, but meaning. In France, she studied art and education at the Faculty of Art in Valenciennes, where her visual language was shaped by artists like Francesca Woodman and Marcel Duchamp. Photography soon became more than a means of self-expression. It became a lifeline.

Falling Into the Frame: How Kassie Found Her Voice

It wasn’t until 2018, while living in France for the third time, that Kassie turned her camera into a career. Encouraged by a partner who recognized her talent, she began photographing couples in Paris. On her very first outing, she earned €25. That was all she needed to believe.

Those early sessions were difficult — shot in French, in unfamiliar cultural settings, while trying to find her confidence as a photographer. But Kassie kept going. When she returned to Canada nearly a year later, she finally got to shoot in her mother tongue. The ease of language unlocked a new level of intimacy in her work.

“I never thought I would become a photographer,” Kassie says. “But it’s the best thing that ever happened to me.”

A Photography Style That Sees and Feels

Kassie’s style is rooted in emotion — not perfection. She calls it a blend between reportage and lifestyle, shaped more by how she shoots than how she edits. Her images are natural, slightly warm, and true to colour, with a soft finish that lets the real moment shine through.

She’s drawn to the quiet in-betweens: the nervous laughter, the reach of a hand, the glances no one else notices. She stays mostly unobtrusive, gently guiding when needed, but letting the story unfold on its own.

What her couples say most? That she made them feel safe. That she noticed things no one else did. That the photos feel like them — not a performance, not something posed, but memories, preserved with truth.

The Artist Behind the Lens

It’s no surprise that Kassie’s work feels so emotionally intelligent. She’s a self-described sensitive soul — observant, poetic, and constantly moved by beauty. She finds inspiration in old analog photography, soft light, connection, and even everyday rituals. She writes. She runs. She walks in the evening and listens to loud music. Dill and penguins make her smile.

And though she’s deeply connected to France (now living in Croix, just outside Lille), she always returns to Winnipeg each summer to visit her Nana. The woman who first handed her a camera. The woman who taught her how to love.

Where She’s Headed Next

Kassie is currently transitioning from a part-time teacher to a full-time wedding photographer. She photographs 10–15 weddings per year across France, Belgium, and Canada — with a dream of expanding into destination weddings in Greece and Portugal.

But growth, for her, isn’t just about numbers. It’s about alignment. She wants to continue working with creatives and gentle souls — couples who care more about feeling than staging. She’s also exploring more personal storytelling sessions beyond weddings: motherhood, chosen families, and the beautiful ordinary.

Her long-term goal? Keep creating with heart. Keep telling stories that matter. And always, always return to the “why” behind it all.
