There’s a quiet conviction behind Tyler Meers’ work—a sense that the camera in his hands isn’t just a tool, but an extension of his way of seeing the world. Based in Terrace, British Columbia, Tyler is a fine art wedding photographer whose images are shaped by his roots as a landscape artist and his reverence for candid, emotionally charged moments.

His path to wedding photography wasn’t planned—it was felt. Years ago, while selling art cards at a local coffee shop in Prince Rupert, Tyler began turning heads with his nature photography. That eventually led to community art shows, where he sold larger abstract and landscape prints. It was at one of those shows that a couple approached him with a question that would change his life: “Would you shoot our wedding?”

At the time, Tyler didn’t even believe in weddings. “I was kind of young and oblivious,” he admits. But he said yes. That decision led to a revelation.

“I remember being behind the camera during their vow exchange, crouched down, tears in my eyes, thinking, ‘This is real. This is love,’” Tyler recalls. And then and there, quickly snapping out of the emotions, he realized these are moments he was meant to capture. “That moment changed everything for me.”

That very first wedding—shot alongside his then-teenage brother—ended up being recognized by Bride Canada, with one of Tyler’s images selected as one of the top 24 wedding photos nationwide. It was a sign. Since then, his career has organically evolved, fueled by word of mouth and a reputation for soulful storytelling through images.

Rooted in Nature, Guided by Emotion

Tyler’s background in fine art is evident in his compositions. Clients often come to him for his use of natural light and the way he weaves the surrounding landscape into the narrative of a wedding day. Whether it’s the temporal rainforests of Prince Rupert and surrounding area or a secluded coastal island, Tyler seeks locations that heighten the emotional gravity of each frame.

He doesn’t oversaturate his calendar—far from it. By choice, Tyler only books 5 to 10 weddings per year, focusing on quality and connection. Many of these are destination weddings, though he continues to shoot for couples across the North and returns annually to the Okanagan.

This intentional pace is part of what allows him to go all-in for every couple. “If I’m showing up to your wedding, I’m there the day before to shoot the rehearsal. I’m meeting your people. I want you to feel seen.”

A Style That Reflects Stillness and Soul

Tyler's style is often described as true-to-colour with a dark and moody edge—natural and emotionally rich but those are just surface-level aesthetics. Underneath lies a deeper sensibility—one that values stillness, emotional resonance, and the weight of a fleeting glance. His images aren’t about posing or production; they’re about presence.

That presence comes, in part, from his intuitive approach. He has an uncanny ability to understand the family dynamics at play on a wedding day. “It’s about knowing where to be and when, without intruding. Listening carefully. Watching closely. Anticipating the high-value moments before they happen.”

Always Evolving

Though his style is well-established, Tyler continues to push his creative boundaries. In recent years, he’s begun working with drones to capture sweeping cinematic perspectives—offered as a complimentary bonus for clients, though he may soon incorporate them officially into his packages.

He’s also exploring the analog side of the craft, reviving his old Canon film camera. This season, he's reintroducing film photography into his process, adding yet another layer of texture to his visual storytelling.

On the other end of the spectrum, Tyler has begun experimenting with hybrid coverage—shooting both photo and video for select couples.

Still, he’s mindful of balance. “I’m always trying to sharpen my skills and stay current, but I don’t want to go too far in a direction that compromises what I love most—being present with the couple, capturing real moments.”

The Heart of It

When asked what sets him apart, Tyler doesn’t boast about gear or accolades. Instead, he points to the intangible—his sensitivity, his presence, and his ability to truly see people.

“There’s something sacred about witnessing people at their most joyful, their most vulnerable. I don’t take that lightly.”

It’s a perspective that echoes through his work. In an industry that can sometimes feel like a race for likes, Tyler Meers is proof that artistry, intention, and emotional intelligence still matter.
