Just outside the peaceful village of Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, The Clover Barn offers a countryside escape with all the warmth of a family-owned venue. Set on a quiet rural road about 30 minutes from both Halifax and Truro, this big red barn—owned by the Sweet family—feels like home from the moment you arrive. Its signature sunsets, wide-open fields, and genuine hospitality create the perfect blend of rustic beauty and heartfelt celebration.

Why Choose The Clover Barn for Your Wedding?

From the outside, The Clover Barn looks like the kind of classic countryside venue you’d pin on every rustic wedding inspiration board. But what makes it truly special is the way it’s grounded in real love and community. The barn is set up for both indoor and outdoor celebrations, with a gorgeous ceremony space just outside the main doors, framed by fields and the iconic silhouette of the barn itself.

Inside, the barn offers enough space for large guest lists without losing that cozy, intimate feeling. And while the venue brings plenty of rustic charm, it’s also flexible enough to elevate with elegant or minimalist styling. The sunsets, however, are non-negotiably stunning—especially as the golden light pours directly through the barn doors in the evening.

Guest Experience

Guests at The Clover Barn always comment on how relaxed and joyful the atmosphere feels. There’s something inherently welcoming about this place—it’s a celebration without pretense. It also offers practical perks: large field parking makes arrival stress-free for even the biggest guest list, and its central location makes it an easy drive from surrounding areas.

During dinner or dancing, guests often pause just to watch the golden light stream through the open barn doors—a moment that feels like it was designed by nature just for weddings.

A Photographer’s Perspective

From a photography standpoint, The Clover Barn is a dream. The fields offer wide, natural backdrops, while the barn itself gives texture, warmth, and structure. One of the most magical moments to capture is sunset, when the sun aligns perfectly with the barn’s entrance—creating natural spotlights that make first dances and couple portraits feel cinematic.

Even in rainy weather, the barn’s interior provides a rustic yet cozy atmosphere that photographs beautifully. For extra photo variety, Stewiacke River Park is just five minutes away, with wooded trails and river views that add a different natural vibe to the gallery.

One of my favourite moments happened during Taylor and Victor’s wedding (see story below), when their first dance took place just as the sun was dipping behind the barn—turning a joyful moment into something utterly magical.

Taylor + Victor’s Heartfelt Countryside Celebration

Taylor and Victor’s day began in true country style—Victor at his family farm with their dogs, Taylor at a peaceful Airbnb suite on-site. The ceremony was held just outside the barn, with Taylor’s grandmother officiating in one of the most touching and personal moments I’ve witnessed.

Their pups made a sweet appearance for portraits, and after the ceremony we headed to nearby Stewiacke River Park for more photos. Back at the barn, their grand entrance turned into a lively celebration, with dancing that lasted into the night—especially memorable as the sunset streamed through the barn doors during their first dance.

Their wedding was the perfect mix of heartfelt and laid-back, styled with simple elegance that let their love (and the landscape) shine through.

Final Thoughts

The Clover Barn is more than just a wedding venue—it’s a place where memories feel a little warmer, where golden hour lasts just a little longer, and where every couple is welcomed like family. Whether you’re planning a rustic, laid-back celebration or transforming the space into something more refined, this Nova Scotia gem offers the perfect backdrop for a wedding that feels both grounded and magical. If you're looking for a venue with heart, history, and unforgettable sunsets, The Clover Barn is absolutely worth a visit.
