Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for a marriage licence in P.E.I., you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
(16–17-year-olds may apply with written parental consent) - Be mentally capable of understanding the marriage contract
- Be unmarried
- Not be closely related by blood or adoption
Same-sex marriages are legally recognized in P.E.I., and you don’t need to be a resident of the province to apply.

Both applicants must provide:
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s licence, passport)
- Details of full names and birthplaces of both parents
- Divorce certificate (if applicable—must be the final decree or certificate of divorce)

How Long Is It Valid?
Marriage licences in Prince Edward Island are valid for 3 months (90 days) from the date of issue.
There is no waiting period, so you can marry the same day the licence is issued.
After the Wedding
Your officiant will complete and submit your signed marriage documentation to Vital Statistics. After registration, you can apply for a marriage certificate, which serves as legal proof of your marriage.
