In the heart of Vancouver’s bustling creative scene, Olivier Lefebvre and his twin brother, Jeremy, are quietly redefining wedding photography. Together, they form the dynamic Twinography Studio, known for capturing raw, unfiltered emotion with a dark, moody aesthetic. Their work stands out not just for its technical precision but for its storytelling—a cinematic journey through some of life’s most intimate moments. For Olivier, it’s about more than photography; it’s about creating art that resonates deeply, both with his clients and within himself.

“A lot of clients come to us because of the twin factor,” Olivier says with a grin, acknowledging the intrigue that often accompanies their dynamic. But there’s more to Twinography Studio than the novelty of identical creatives. “We’re all about full-day weddings. We don’t want to just show up for six hours and miss the story—we want to be there for every moment, from the quiet morning preparations to the wild dance floor chaos.”

This commitment to holistic storytelling sets Twinography apart in Vancouver’s competitive wedding photography market. While many photographers stick to rigid schedules, Olivier and Jeremy immerse themselves fully in the day, ensuring no moment—big or small—is overlooked. Their approach is intentional, thoughtful, and, above all, human.

The Roots of Creativity

Olivier and Jeremy’s artistic journey began in Montreal, where they grew up in a household where art was always celebrated. His mother, a lifelong creative with a passion for photography and painting, instilled in him a love for the visual arts. Growing up, Olivier was surrounded by an eclectic mix of photos and albums, many of which were created during his mother’s own photography pursuits.

“We had this huge chest full of wedding albums and old family photos,” Olivier recalls. “It was like opening an antique box—you could smell the history. There were thousands of prints, all from the film days. I’d look through those photos for hours, seeing relatives from different eras, and it sparked something in me. Seeing my mom as a teenager in those photos was fascinating. It was like the start of my obsession with storytelling through images.”

Despite the early influence of photography, Olivier’s path wasn’t initially aimed at the camera. While his fascination with images grew, he was drawn to music in his teenage years, performing in concerts and considering a future in music school. But, as often happens, life’s crossroads led him toward another creative pursuit.

“I thought about music school, but I kept hearing how hard it was, and I didn’t even try,” he explains. “Instead, I leaned into graphic design, another creative outlet that made sense at the time.”

Journey into Wedding Photography

Olivier’s path to wedding photography took a unique turn, starting with a background in graphic design. It wasn’t until he met a photographer who specialized in product and wedding photography that his interest in the craft truly ignited. Intrigued by the world of wedding photography, Olivier began assisting her on weekends, handling the grunt work like setting up gear and holding softboxes, all for a modest $50 per wedding day. Though the work was grueling, it sparked something in him, and soon, he wanted more.

As his passion for photography grew, Olivier made a significant career shift. He transitioned from working in a hospital to joining Image Salon, a post-production studio founded by top photographers Daniel and Davina. At Image Salon, Olivier didn’t start as a photographer but instead mastered the art of photo editing. It was a rare opportunity—most photographers learn editing after they’ve already started shooting, but Olivier was editing wedding photos from all over the world before even picking up a camera to shoot his own weddings. This immersion gave him a deep understanding of wedding imagery, style, and technique.

Soon after, Olivier brought his brother Jeremy into the fold. Both brothers worked at Image Salon, refining their skills and absorbing invaluable insights from the high-caliber photographers around them. Their experience at Image Salon led Daniel and Davina to invite them to shoot for their secondary photography company, Grey Sparrow. This was a pivotal moment for Olivier. It wasn’t just about shooting weddings; it was about being mentored by some of the best in the industry. Daniel and Davina’s mentorship—offering critiques, tips, and direct feedback—was crucial in developing Olivier’s approach to wedding photography.

In 2015, Jeremy moved to Vancouver to pursue a career in the film industry. The move opened up new opportunities, and eventually, Olivier followed his brother. In Vancouver, Olivier worked as a location scout for film productions, which allowed him to explore the breathtaking landscapes of British Columbia. Though the job was rewarding, it was lonely, and it took the focus away from wedding photography.

In 2018, Olivier and Jeremy launched their own wedding photography business, Twinography, and began shooting destination weddings alongside Olivier’s work in the film industry. By 2020, Olivier made the decision to leave the film industry entirely and focus exclusively on wedding photography. After years of building experience through assisting, editing, and mentorship, he was ready to commit fully to his craft.

With his brother still working in the film industry, Olivier focused on growing Twinography into a thriving business. The foundation of years spent editing wedding images, assisting at weddings, and being mentored by industry leaders gave Olivier the tools he needed to run a successful studio. Today, Twinography is known for its dynamic and moody approach to wedding photography, capturing raw emotion and intimate moments.

Balancing Art and Life

For Olivier, the challenge isn’t just about creating stunning images—it’s about finding balance in a demanding career. “Summers are insane,” he admits. “With Indian weddings and full-day coverage, it feels like I’m always gone. My girlfriend definitely feels it, so we’ve learned to carve out time during the off-season.”

Mondays have become Olivier’s day for reconnecting. Whether it’s spending time with friends, joining his brother in creative pursuits, or simply unwinding, he prioritizes these moments as a counterbalance to the grind of wedding season. “You can’t sustain yourself if you’re always grinding,” he says. “At some point, you burn out.  It’s about working smarter, not harder.”

Looking Ahead

As Olivier reflects on his journey, he remains driven by the same passion that led him to pick up a camera in the first place. “I love what I do,” he says. “Every wedding is a new story, a new challenge. And at the end of the day, I’m just grateful to be able to do what I love with the people I care about.”
