Marriage licences are issued by Deputy Issuers of Marriage Licences, located across the province. These are individuals authorized by the government—often in private businesses or municipal offices.

Who Can Get Married in Nova Scotia?

To qualify for a marriage licence, you must:

  • Be at least 19 years old
     (16–18-year-olds may apply with written parental consent)
  • Be mentally competent to marry
  • Be unmarried
  • Not be closely related by blood or adoption

Same-sex marriages are fully recognized in Nova Scotia. There is no residency requirement to apply.
